羋
- baa! (the bleating of a sheep)
Etymology 2
From a Kam–Tai for “bear” (Schuessler (2007) apud Yan (1983)); compare Proto-Tai *ʰmwɯjᴬ (“bear”) (> Thai หมี (mǐi), Zhuang mui). The Records of the Grand Historian records that this was the family name (姓) of the ruling family of the state of Chu (楚), while 熊 (OC *ɢʷlɯm, “bear”) was the clan name (氏).
