Notes

  • The history of the genus Tydeus is complex and convoluted. After three series of revisions [Baker (1965, 1970); André (1980, 1981); Kaźmierski (1989, 1998)], most problems have arisen from the disregard for old type specimens that were yet preserved in a well-known museum. Problems identified by André (2005: 998–999) include misidentifications and species confusion: croceus (three species named this way), kochi (two species) and spathulatus (two species), designation of types and numerous synonymies repeatedly published without prior study of type specimens.
  • The division into 3 subgenera (Afrotydeus, Pertydeus, Tydeus) proposed by Baker (1970: 164) is not followed any more.
  • The specimens identified as Tydeus may present different chaetotaxies according to the publication. For instance, the Tydeus in André (1980: 154) belongs to the genus Calotydeus and does not correspond to the genus Tydeus defined in André (2005: 996).
  • Genus listed in Silva et al. (2016: 34).
  • Misspelling: see Tydaeus.
