Name

Tydeus kochi Oudemans, 1928

  • Type locality: On Salix. (different from Koch's (1836) description, "from swampy meadows")
  • Holotype: Lost (not listed by Buitendijk (1945), not in RMNH as mentioned by Silva et al. (2016: 37).

  • Tydeus croceus, preoccupied name used by Koch (1836)
  • Tydeus kochi, original combination proposed by Oudemans (1928: 378)
  • Tydeus (Tydeus) kochi, subsequent combination used by Baker (1970: 170) and Silva et al. (2016: 37)
  • Orthotydeus kochi, subsequent designation used by Castagnoli (1984: 308)

(Short) history

  • The Tydeus kochi Oudemans, 1928 was a new name for the Tydeus croceus described by Koch, 1836 [and not for Acarus croceus Linnaeus, 1758].
  • The species was renamed by Oudemans (1928: 378) for a species with "spatulate" setae. The specimens identified as kochi by Baker (1970: 170–171) surely belong to another species as they have no clavate setae (André, 2005: 981).
  • Species inquirenda according to André (2005: 997).
