Etymology
From Proto-Vietic *haːr, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓaar. The /ɓ/ was probably dropped in the Pre-Vietic stage (compare Khasi ar), then a /h/ appeared in a similar manner to hết and hắn. Cognate with Muong hal, Khmer ពីរ (pii), Bahnar 'bar, Pacoh bar, Khasi ar, Mon ၜါ (ba).
