From Ancient Greek ἀνήρ (anḗr, “man”) + -ειδής (-eidḗs), itself from εἶδος (eîdos, “form, image, shape, appearance, look”). Note the form ἀνδρώδης (andrṓdēs, “manly”) already existed in Ancient Greek. Synchronically, andro- + -oid.
