From older sujuzgar, from Old Spanish sujudgar, from Latin subiugāre, present active infinitive of subiugō, and influenced by the verb juzgar (“to judge”), from Old Spanish judgar, from Latin iudicāre[1]. Compare the borrowed doublet subyugar.
