pāvō (a peacock)
Etymology
Likely borrowed from Ancient Greek ταώς (taṓs, “peacock”), possibly of Oriental unknown origin[1], perhaps from Dravidian (compare Tamil தோகை (tōkai, “tail (of a peacock)”)) or Turkic source (compare Turkish tavuk (“hen”)), or possibly imitative (compare Latin paupulō (“to call like a peacock”). Cognate with Hebrew טַוָּס (tavás), Aramaic טוסא, Arabic طاووس (ṭāwūs)).
