Etymology 1
Zero grade of lëndë (as attested in the variant lëndër), close to Old Norse lundr (whence Icelandic lundur 'grove'), originally denoting a rudimentary boat obtained from a hollow tree trunk. Alternatively from Latin lunter; compare Romanian luntre, Italian londra.[1][2]
