From a Vulgar Latin *incalciāre, *incalceāre[1], from Latin calx, calcis. Compare Catalan and Portuguese encalçar, Italian incalzare.

encalzar (first-person singular present encalzo, first-person singular preterite encalcé, past participle encalzado)
- (archaic) to chase; to give chase to; to dog
Conjugation
- Rule: z becomes a c before e.
- 1 Mostly obsolete form, still used in legal jargon and set phrases.
- 2 Argentine and Uruguayan voseo prefers the tú form for the present subjunctive.
