From Proto-Afro-Asiatic *leb- (compare Tangale labata, Mukulu ʾelbi).[1]
The component hieroglyphs are 𓍋 (ꜣb) + phonetic complement 𓃀 (b) + 𓅱 (w) + a determinative: 𓃰 (“elephant”), 𓌟 (“bone”), or 𓎵 and 𓈉 (“land”) depending on meaning.
