Etymology 1
Compound of 体 (karada, “body”) + 中 (jū, “throughout”). The chū changes to jū as an instance of rendaku (連濁). The 中 character is often read as chū in compounds, with a meaning of “middle; inside, within”, but when read as jū with rendaku, the meaning shifts to “throughout, all over”.
