From Old Khmer pos, pvās, or Angkorian Old Khmer pvas, pvās (to be initiated into holy orders; to enter holy orders; to be in holy orders); extended as paṃnos, paṃnvās, pnos, from which Thai ผนวช (pà-nùuat) was derived.
