pyll
Albanian
Etymology
Unclear. Possibly a prefixed formation of an earlier *hyll, from Proto-Albanian *skūla, close to Ancient Greek (Attic) ὕλη (húlē, “forest, grove”) and Thracian sula (“grove”) (cf. shul). Alternatively from an earlier *pëýll, *pëdyll, from Vulgar Latin *padūlem, from Latin palūs, palūdem. Compare Romanian pădure with the same sense development.
