Etymology
From Proto-Uralic *nime (“name”). Cognates include Southern Mansi näm, Northern Mansi нам (nam), Finnish nimi and Estonian nimi.[1] The Uralic word may be a cognate of Proto-Indo-European *h₁nómn̥, or a variety of other similar words found throughout Eurasian languages.
