From Proto-Tocharian, probably ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *leǵ- (“gather”) (compare Latin legō, Ancient Greek λέγω (légō), Albanian lidh), in the abstract sense of "gather with the eyes", or alternately cognate to Old English lōcian (English look). Cognate to Tocharian B läk-.
