  1. (intransitive) to get ahead, to be ahead
    La aliaj kurantoj antaŭiĝis al mi je pluraj metroj.
    The other runners had got several metres ahead of me.
    Ŝi volis anonci al ili la novaĵon sed ŝia fratino antaŭiĝis al ŝi.
    She wanted to tell them the news, but her sister told them first (lit. got ahead of her).
