From Middle French ailleurs, from Old French aillors, aillurs (“elsewhere”), probably from Latin aliōrsum, or from a Vulgar Latin *aliore, from in *aliore loco. Or possibly connected to Latin aliubī, from alibī. Compare with Romanian aiurea and Portuguese alhures.
