Etymology

From Serbo-Croatian kukuruz. Further origin disputed. Probably from Ottoman Turkish قوقوروز (kokoroz, qōqōrōz), from Albanian kokërrëz, from kokërr (pellet, grain).[1] Compare Russian кукуруза (kukuruza), Hungarian kukorica, Slovene koruza, Polish kukurydza, etc.
