Suffix

-kel

  1. (frequentative suffix) Often added to a sound-imitating stem to form a verb to indicate repetitive action.
    pöfékel (“to puff, to emit smoke in puffs”)

Usage notes

  • No longer productive. It is used only in a few words. Harmonic variants:
    -kol is added to back vowel words
    -kel is added to unrounded front vowel words
    -köl is added to rounded front vowel words
