Etymology

Borrowed from Iranian; compare Parthian -𐭊𐭓𐭕 (-krt /-kirt/, /-gird/), Middle Persian 𐭪𐭫𐭲 (-klt /-kirt/, /-gird/), and see there for more.[1][2][3] Found also in several wholly-borrowed terms (see in the Related terms section). The same etymon functions also as a noun կերտ (kert, building, construction) and a verb կերտեմ (kertem, to make, construct) in Armenian, but these are not attested at an early date, so Armenian words ending in -կերտ (-kert) are not genuine compounds from a synchronic point of view.[3]

ձեռն (jeṙn, hand) + -ակերտ (-akert)ձեռակերտ (jeṙakert, made by hand)
