-евик
Russian
Etymology
Originally from -ик (-ik) added to adjectives ending in -евый (-evyj) or -ево́й (-evój); later extracted out as its own suffix.
Pronunciation
Suffix
-евик or -еви́к • (-evik or -evík) m inan, m anim
- Alternative form of -овик (-ovik) (used after palatalized or formerly palatalized consonants)
Usage notes
- For many, perhaps most, nouns ending in -евик (-evik), the base noun has a corresponding attributive adjective in -евый (-evyj) or
-ево́й (-evój), in which case an analysis of the noun as formed from the attributive adjective + -ик (-ik) is still possible, and in same cases preferred.
- As with -ик (-ik), the suffix may be stressed, in which case it is in accent pattern b (always ending-stressed).
