Etymology

Compound of 折り (おり, ori, “folding”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 折る (おる, oru, “to fold”)) +‎ 鶴 (つる, tsuru, “crane (bird)”).[1] The tsuru changes to zuru as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
