From Mongolian ᠪᠠᠭᠰᠢ (baɣsi, “master, trainer, teacher”) or Manchu ᠪᠠᡴᡧᡳ (bakši, “scholar”), in turn from Chinese 博士 (MC pwɑk̚ d͡ʒɨX, “master”).
