From Mongolian ᠪᠠᠭᠰᠢ (baɣsi, master, trainer, teacher) or Manchu ᠪᠠᡴᡧᡳ (bakši, scholar), in turn from Chinese 博士 (MC pwɑk̚ d͡ʒɨX, “master”).
