Etymology
Applied in late 19th century Taiwan during Qing rule. Pingpu 平埔族 and Gaoshan 高山族 (gāoshānzú) were used interchangeably with the epithets “cooked” 熟番 (shúfān) and “raw” 生番 (shēngfān).
