Etymology

From Sanskrit प्रयोजन (prayojana, “aim; desire; motive; object; etc.”), probably via Angkorian Old Khmer prayojana (“benefit, use; aim, purpose”). Compare Old Khmer prayoja; Modern Khmer ប្រយោជន៍.
