Of uncertain origin. Probably a corrupted form of ใน (nai), according to some. Compare Old Khmer ṇā, nā (“place, position, site, location; destination; time, moment, occasion; etc”); Modern Khmer ណា (naa), នា (niə); Old Mon na.
