คุณหญิง • (kun-yǐng)

  1. a noble title given to a married woman possessing the royal decoration of Chula Chom Klao from the fourth class to the second class.
  2. (archaic) a noble title given to the principal wife of a person holding the noble rank of พระยา (prá-yaa).
  3. (colloquial) a term of address to a woman holding the royal status of หม่อมราชวงศ์ (mɔ̀m-râat-chá-wong).

Usage notes

  • As for the first sense, if the woman is unmarried, the title คุณ (kun) is used. If she is a member of the special second class or higher, the title ท่านผู้หญิง (tân-pûu-yǐng) is used.
