From Magadhi Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit स्थान (sthāna). Cognate with Chittagonian ঠাঁই (ṭãi), Bengali ঠাঁই (ṭhãi), Maithili ঠাম (ṭhām), Bhojpuri 𑂘𑂰𑂀𑂫 / ठाँव (ṭhā̃v), Romani than, Persian (stân), English stay. Doublet of স্থান (sthan).
