From Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (siḍḍhi), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *śrī-ḍhis, from the ancestor of the root Sanskrit श्रिष् (śriṣ), श्लिष् (śliṣ). Cognate to Marathi शिडी (śiḍī).
