From Old Marathi सिडी (siḍī), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (siḍḍhi), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *śrī-ḍhis, from the ancestor of the root Sanskrit श्रिष् (śriṣ), श्लिष् (śliṣ). Compare Hindi सीढ़ी (sīṛhī).
