Borrowed from Persian جایگاه (jâygâh), جاگه (jâgah), from جا (jâ), جای (jây, “place”) + گاه (-gâh, “location suffix”). Compare Marathi जागा (j̈āgā), Bengali জায়গা (jayga), Assamese জেগা (zega).
