Etymology
From Middle Persian ʾlwh (āluh, “eagle”) (Manichaean Middle Persian ʾʾlwf (āluf)). Compare Gilaki الوغ (aluğ), Mazanderani اله (alle), Northern Kurdish eylo / êlo, Central Kurdish هەڵۆ (hello), as well as արծուի (arcui).
