According to Ačaṙean, a Semitic borrowing. Compare Arabic ظَلِيم (ẓalīm, male ostrich), plural ظلمان (ẓilmān, ẓulmān).

      Merkacʿucʿin ibrew višapkʿ zstins iwreancʿ, ew diecʿucʿin zkoriwns iwreancʿ; ełen usterkʿ žołovrdean imoy ’i tanǰans haruacocʿ, zi čʿíkʿ n(o)cʿ(a) bžškutʿi(wn); ew taṙapecʿan ibrew ǰaylamunkʿ yanapati.
      Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
