Etymology

Borrowed from an Iranian word whose components go back to Proto-Iranian *pati- (against) and *kar- (to do, make), from Proto-Indo-European *kʷer-.[1][2] Cognate with Buddhist Sogdian [script needed] (pčʾrt /pačārt/, because of, as a result), Christian Sogdian [script needed] (pčrw /pačaru/, instead).[3]
