Etymology

From ուս- (us-), from Proto-Indo-European *uk-, zero-grade of *ewk-, + -ան- (-an-). Cognate with Sanskrit उच्यति (ucyati, to take pleasure in; to be accustomed), Proto-Slavic *učiti, Lithuanian jùnkti (to learn).
