Etymology
From յ- (y-) + Proto-Armenian *arm- (“to bind fast, tie, fit”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂er- grown with -m, + -ար (-ar). Closest cognates are Ancient Greek ἁρμός (harmós, “joint”), ἁρμόζω (harmózō), Latin arma. Possibly related to արմանամ (armanam).
