Old Armenian

Etymology

An Iranian borrowing, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *daiH- (to look, see), whence Persian دیدن (didan).[1][2] Compare Georgian დეტი (deṭi, outsentry, picket) from the same source. The sense “mark, target" is a semantic loan from Ancient Greek σκοπός (skopós).[3]
