From Proto-Indo-European *dʰél(H)-; related to դալար (dalar), դեղձ (dełj), դեղբ (dełb), դեղին (dełin) and possibly դղեզ (dłez). The basic meaning was “herb”. The sense of “medicine” developed from the use of herbs as medicine.
