ատեան

Old Armenian

Etymology

According to Ačaṙyan, from *ատ- (*at-), from Proto-Indo-European *sed- (to sit), + -եան (-ean). Cognate with Latin solium (throne, seat) and Old Irish suide (seat). The sense of “time” developed as “assembly, council; meeting of an assembly” → “time of such meeting” → “time in general”; compare Persian گاه (gâh, time; location).[1][2]
