ҡоҙоҡ
Bashkir
Ҡоҙоҡ
Etymology
Via an intermediary language, from Turkic *quduğ "well" (compare Old Turkic quduğ, quδuğ (“well”)), from Proto-Turkic *Kud- (“to pour”).
Compare ҡойо (qoyo), the native Kypchak development from the same archetype.
The intermediary could have been a Mongolic language (compare Mongolian худаг (hudag, “well”)) or, less probably, written Turkic (Chagatai > Volga Turki) traditions.
Compare with Kazakh құдық (құdıқ), Kyrgyz кудук (kuduk), Uzbek quduq, Kyrgyz, Tuvan, Yakut кудук (kuduk, “well”), etc.
