Etymology

Via an intermediary (most probably Mongolic) source, from Turkic *quduğ "well" (compare Old Turkic quduğ‎, quδuğ‎ (“well”)), from Proto-Turkic *Kud- (“to pour”).

Compare ҡойо (qoyo), the native Kypchak development from the same archetype, and ҡоҙоҡ (qoðoq).

Compare with Southern Altai кутук (kutuk), Khakas хутух (xutux, “well”).
