Ultimately borrowed from Ancient Greek ἀτονία (atonía, languor), from ἄτονος (átonos, languid), from ἀ- (a-, privative) + τόνος (tónos, accent), from τείνειν (teínein, to stretch). Synchronically analyzable as а- (a-) + тон (ton) + -и́я (-íja).[1]
