From Proto-Vietic *k-puːr (“lime”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *knpur (“lime”); cognate with Muong pôl, Khmer កំបោរ (kɑmbao), Mon ဂပဵု (həpɒ). Likely ultimately derived from Proto-Austronesian *qapuR, whence also Malay kapur.
