A semi-learned form, using the borrowed suffix -ción, and based on the stem of the inherited Old Spanish form trayçón, from Latin trāditiōnem, singular accusative of trāditiō (or formed from the Old Spanish verb traer, itself from Latin tradere, and the suffix -ción)[1]; compare Catalan traïció. Doublet of the more recent borrowing tradición.
