From Proto-Vietic *g-lɔːn (“round, full (moon)”), possibly from Proto-Mon-Khmer *bluən, a derivative of *luun ~ *luən (“round; to roll”); cognate with Muong tlòn, Mon ပလောန် (pəlon, “skein”).
