Shared with Ingrian, Karelian and Votic languages. Borrowed either from Proto-Germanic *sukkaz (“sock”) or from Proto-Norse; cognates include English sock, Ludic suk, Estonian sukk, Livonian sukā, and Swedish socka. Ultimately from Latin soccus.[1]
