Cognate with Low German rik, West Frisian ryk, German reich, English rich, Danish rig, Swedish rik, Gothic 𐍂𐌴𐌹𐌺𐌴𐌹𐍃 (reikeis). The Indo-European root is also the source of Latin rēx.
