Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *raugja, with an original meaning 'to smoke', thus related to Old Norse reykr and Old High German rouh (smoke)[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *(e)reug-, from Proto-Indo-European *h1reu-g- 'to retch, vomit'. Cognate to Ancient Greek ἐρεύγομαι (ereúgomai, to belch, gurk)[2]
