Etymology

From Proto-Finno-Ugric *ńuŋɜ- (“to rest, relax”)[1][2] +‎ -szik. The nyug- (“to keep quiet”) stem was revived during the Hungarian language reform in the 18th–19th centuries and used in several compound words. See nyugágy (“deckchair”), nyugdíj (“pension”).[3]
