Cognate with Gothic 𐌻𐌴𐌺𐌴𐌹𐍃 (lekeis), Old High German lāhhi, Old Norse læknir (Danish læge (“physician”)) and with Old Irish liaig (Irish liaigh). Akin to Russian лекарство (lekarstvo, “drug”), лекарь (lekarʹ, “physician”), Czech lékař, lék, Polish lek, lekarz, lekarka, lekarstwo.
